There are many exciting sporting events and festivals in the Alps that are worth a visit. Here are some of the active festivals that are happening in Alpe d'Huez and Tignes next summer.

Alpe d'Huez Mega Avalanche Mountain bike competition. Accommodation available!!

Alpe d’Huez Megavalanche Week will be held from the 5 to 11 July 2010.

During Megavalanche Week, Alpe d’Huez and the Grandes Rousses Massif resort becomes the heart of the mountain bike freeride world. There are 1400 participants from 20 nations, 7 days of non-stop races and events: the Sprint Avalanche of Oz-en-Oisans, the Mega Film Festival nights. This includes the exhibition and test-ride center with the best and latest mountain bike and components brands. Starting with the qualification day on the Dôme track, followed by the highlight of the festival; the most spectacular mountain bike race... the Megavalanche.

The route is 30 km of non-stop downhill tracks on the Mégavalanche circuit, the longest in the world: Where the route starts on a glacier and finishes in the valley. It has a vertical drop of 2,610m, from 3,330 m (Pic Blanc) to 720 m (Allemont).

There are 9 cable cars: open from 1 July to 30 August, that provide access to 10,000 m of downhill thrills in a single day!

Tignes Freeride Mountain Bike Festival July 2010 (Mid July, exact dates tbc)

Inspired by the awesome surroundings, the Freeride Mountain Bike Tour, that took place on the 18th and 19th July, 2009 was open to competitors, amateur and professionals. Planned to return to Tignes for 2010, this mountain circuit is an expecptional course. The festival is held over two days. In teams of two, the participants can race and try out the special Bike Park resort.

If mountain biking isnt exciting enough, you can take a helicopter tour through the Alpine peaks. This is a great festival where amateurs and professionals can share their experiences!

Tignes Cameride Mountain Bike Competition

On the 1st and 2nd of August, teams of riders, photographers and cameramen took photos and videos in the Bike Park. The teams voted amongst themselves to pick a winner. Watch this space for 2010 August dates!

Competition held at the Tignes Bike Park (i.e. on the mountain bike tracks) and is open to all. Each team comprised 2 to 4 people: photographer, cameraman and riders with the aim of getting the ultimate shot!

The enrolled teams have two days in the Bike Park to take their photos (categories revealed on the Saturday morning), and their video clips.
