Espace Killy (Tignes)

The chance to experience not one but two world-class ski resorts is enough to make you blush with anticipation and thanks to the Espace Killy region covering both Val d’Isère and Tignes you might want to set your cheeks to rouge factor 11. Of course, contemplating a trip to the high altitude resort of Tignes alone is enough to make you go a little weak at the knees and as the rightful home of snowboarding, Tignes promises an awesome array of air-time options as well as sublime skiing to match. With après ski in abundance and accessible glaciers located at over 2500metres, if this region of France doesn’t excite then nothing will.

The Skiing and Boarding

If you’re purely taking in the slopes in and around Tignes then you won’t be disappointed because you’ll find over 150kms of piste to choose from including some excellent nursery slopes for those getting to grips with the basics. The local ski schools are excellent and after a few days of yo-yo practise you’ll be ready to take on an unbeatable selection of reds and blues as you progress from down to up in no time at all. There are approximately 8kms of more advanced runs available however, if you’re looking to really scale new heights then take the funicular railway up some 2500 metres to the Grande Motte which promises skiing whatever the time of year. As mentioned, Tignes is the natural birthplace of snow-boarding and 3 wicked snow parks promise everything from huge half pipes to your very own boarder drag lift.

As the sun sets on yet another perfect day the après ski continues in the same vein as the mountain slopes and from bowling and skating to cinemas and crepes, Tignes has got it going on.
