Set amidst the spectacular scenery of the Maurienne Valley, the neighbouring resorts of Valloire and Valmeinier present all the characteristics of traditional alpine ski resorts combined with an impressive, linked ski area which boasts an impressive snow record.
Valmeinier is made up of 2 small resorts. The original village at 1500m is smaller and more traditional whilst the later, purpose-built addition to the resort at 1800m remains very much in keeping with the mountain environment. Ski lifts in both villages ensure access to the impressive 150km ski area which enjoys a high proportion of altitude slopes above 2000 metres.
Valloire has long since remained a firm favourite for British school groups. The village dates back to the 17th century and has retained much of its original character. Today the resort boasts a good selection of shops and restaurants alongside a choice of après ski possibilities. Villagers are proud of the rich heritage and traditions and there is a genuine sense of welcome and hospitality.
These traditional Alpine resorts boast the vast skiing and snow boarding opportunities that make up the Galibier- Thabor ski area. There are no less than 85 ski slopes to enjoy as well as excellent snow-boarding facilities.
Ski Level
The ski area promises above average choice and facilities for both beginners and intermediates with wide red slopes and numerous gentle blues. More accomplished skiers can test their skills on the black slopes such as the lengthy “Cascade” run.
