This is top class ski resort with an excellent snow record. Located near the French-Italian border, Bardonecchia is approximately 100 km east of Turin. Starting at 1,300m, skiing goes up to a 2,750 m, providing good conditions for late season. The lower slopes are covered by a network of cannons providing artificial snow cover when required and maintian the base for the early and later ends of the seasons.
The town has its culture of its own even though its economy is based mainly upon tourism. There are bars, restaurants, pizzerias, souvenir shops lining the streets alongside interesting local shops set in traditional surrondings.
As most of the skiing is above 1,500m snow cover is excellent on both the beginner and advanced pistes. Snow cannons cover most of the lower slopes which they use to develop a base of snow at the start of the season and also create snow when needed.
The central area is known as “Camp Smith” where ski school meets up and returns to add the end of each session.
