Celebrating Expertise, Adventure, and Unforgettable School Ski Trips

For four decades, SkiBound has been creating life-changing experiences for students and stress-free adventures for teachers. From our earliest SkiBound Clubhotels in the French Alps to our worldwide portfolio today, one thing has never changed - our passion for helping schools make memories on the slopes that last a lifetime.

To mark SkiBound’s 40th Anniversary, we spoke to some of the people who’ve helped shape our journey - the experts behind the scenes who make every school trip possible. Their insights show why, after forty years, SkiBound remains the trusted choice for schools across the UK.

Jo Colbourne, Commercial Manager

“We’ve seen the industry transform – and we’ve led the way.”

When SkiBound began, safety standards and travel logistics looked very different. “In the early days, safety protocols were more informal,” Jo recalls. “Now, schools rightly expect detailed risk assessments, 24/7 support, and full safeguarding.”

It’s this shift - from casual arrangements to comprehensive care - that defines SkiBound’s modern approach. “Teachers book with us because they know we’ve done it all before,” Jo says. “We make it seamless - safe, transparent, and fully protected through ABTA and ATOL.”

Today, the focus is on value, flexibility, and reassurance. “We’ve evolved from running a handful of classic Alpine resorts to offering destinations from Andorra to North America - always finding the right fit for each school’s goals and budget.”

Deborah Carden, SkiBound Sales Manager

“It’s all about the smiles.”

Ask Deborah what makes her proudest, and the answer is instant: “Seeing the smiles on students’ faces as they conquer their fears on the slopes.”

For Deborah, every successful school trip starts with strong support. “Teachers often ask how we’ll help them before and during the trip. The answer is simple: we’re with you every step of the way.”

Her advice for getting the best value? “Think flexibly – can you travel outside of half term? Alternatively, take our team’s advice on the best-value resorts if you are fixed on dates. There’s always a solution that fits your budget and still delivers an unforgettable ski experience.”

David Plommer, Ski Product & Operations Manager

“The right resort makes all the difference.”

David has seen SkiBound grow from his early days as a kitchen porter in Les Deux Alpes to managing a global network of resorts. “After 40 years, we’ve built trusted partnerships across Europe and North America,” he explains.

“Whether it’s doorstep skiing in Claviere, the snow-sure slopes of Zell am See, or the majestic landscapes of Jasper in the Canadian Rockies, we have something for every school - from beginners to seasoned skiers.”

His practical advice: “Match your resort to your group’s ability and budget. A smaller ski area with great instructors can be just as rewarding as the biggest names in the Alps.”

Hannah Roberts, Overseas Operations - North America

“North America brings something special.”

For Hannah, the North American experience is all about hospitality and open space. “You’ll find quiet slopes, minimal lift queues, and English-speaking instructors,” she says. “Add iconic city stopovers - like New York or Boston - and you’ve got an unforgettable learning experience.”

Her top tip? “Preparation makes everything smoother - organise visas early, pre-collect ski fit information, and give your students bright hoodies so they’re easy to spot during city visits!”

Nick Dawson, Nick, Head of Sales - SkiBound, JCA & Travelbound

“It’s the people behind the trips.”

Nick sums up what keeps schools coming back: “Our team. Between us, we’ve got over 200 years of experience.”

His advice to new Party Leaders is simple:

  • Ask questions – we’ve heard them all, and we’re here to help.
  • Book early – it gives you first pick of the best hotels and spreads the cost for parents.
  • Plan inspection visits – see your chosen resort firsthand and build confidence in your choice.

“We’ve got over 200 years of combined experience across our team - that’s expertise teachers can rely on.”

- Nick, Head of Sales - SkiBound, JCA & Travelbound

Alex Wells, SkiBound Account Manager

“Hearing the difference we make never gets old.”

Alex finds his motivation in feedback: “When a teacher calls mid-trip just to say how great everything is - or that we’ve restored their faith in running a ski trip - that’s what it’s all about.”

His top tip for teachers? “Promote early and widely. Use assemblies, social media, and photos from previous trips. Word of mouth and excitement are your best recruitment tools.”

Sue Clough, Aviation Team

“Every detail matters.”

After decades arranging group flights, Sue knows timing and teamwork are everything. “Double-check every name against the passport - and then check again!” she laughs.

Her reassurance to teachers: “If a flight is delayed or changed, our team reacts instantly. We keep Group Leaders informed while finding solutions - whether that’s new flights or overnight stays.”

Bob Colbourne, SkiBound Account Manager

“Reliability, reassurance, and reward.”

Bob has seen school travel trends shift toward safety, simplicity, and sustainability. “Schools want all-inclusive pricing, shorter travel times, and proven safety standards,” he says.

His advice to first-time organisers: “Choose a provider with real experience in school travel. We ask the right questions so we can match each school to the perfect destination.”
