What ski resorts do we recommend for first time skiers?

Although ski ability doesn't always correlate to age, we know that some ski resorts and their pistes can be geared towards younger skiiers in particular. With fun kid zones, extensive ski schools, and apres activites focused on young people, Skibound definitely knows which resorts are perfect for your students.

With over 40 years of experience, SkiBound prides itself on offering a wide range of destinations and resorts for all budgets, ages and abilities. We chatted to our expert SkiBound staff, to delve more into the resorts which are angled to young skiiers. We asked our staff:

"If I was a party leader with a group of 30 students, aged 8-11 years old and they have never skied before, what resort do you recommend and why?"

Here's what our team had to say:

Lofer

"Lofer ski resort in Austria is ideal for first time skiers because of gentle wide slopes, excellent ski schools and uncrowded pistes. The resort is compact making supervision easy and lift queues are short. We offer superb value packages, and Lofer has reliable snow conditions. There is plenty of beginner friendly facilities to help first-time students learn quickly and confidently while enjoying a relaxed Alpine environment."

Zauchensee

"Zauchensee is also a great ski resort for first time skiers. It offers high snow sure slopes, good quality ski schools and well-maintained beginner areas. The resort of Zauchensee is safe and well organised, with a modern lift system and clear piste layouts that make supervision easy. Beginners can build confidence on gentle runs while benefitting from reliable snow conditions."

Serre Chevalier

"Serre Chevalier has a large, open nursery slope right next to our Clubhotel Frejus, making it an ideal base for beginners. This is the perfect place for students to build confidence and develop their skills before venturing further afield with their instructor. The resort also offers a number of gentle greens, which are ideal for beginners as they progress beyond the nursery slopes."

Montenèvre

"Montenèvre is where I personally learned to ski, and it remains an excellent resort for beginners. There is a large, open nursery area with a magic carpet, which is ideal for pupils taking their first steps on skis. The resort of Montenèvre also offers plenty of long, wide green runs, perfect for building confidence. As pupils progress, there are numerous blue runs, as well as intermediate and advanced options. Montenèvre is part of the impressive Milky Way ski area, providing access to a large and varied ski area to suit all abilities."

Claviere

"For a primary school group who have never skied before, I would recommend the Chalet della Luna. It's set in the quiet, picturesque Italian resort of Claviere. This is a lovely accommodation with fantastic, hospitable owners who will do everything they can to make the week run smoothly. Included in a week's stay is a hot lunch every day back at the hotel. "

"The Chalet della Luna is just a short walk (3 minutes) to the ski school meeting point and nursery slopes before the group can start tackling some of the more progressive runs in the resort. At a resort height of 1,760 metres, good snow conditions are guaranteed from December through to the beginning of April. As well as being by the slopes, the Chalet della Luna is also in the middle of the village. This means easy access to pizzerias, for that authentic Italian experience, cafes and local gift shops."

Alpe d'Huez

"Alpe d'Huez is a fantastic resort for beginners with a dedicated 'debutants' area which allows students to learn quickly and then be able to use their newly found ski skills on the many blue runs in resort. The Clubhotel Vallee Blanche has lots of areas for students to chill out and boasts a fully-equipped disco area to strut you stuff after skiing."

Les Menuires

"Clubhotel Skilt in Les Menuires is located right next to the ESF meeting point and nursery slopes right outside the hotel. Once students have mastered the snowplough they can access the chairlift right outside the hotel."
