The historical centre of Briancon is a strongly fortified town which is accessible on foot and overlooked by the fortified castle. It was originally built by Vauban to defend the region from Austrians in the 17th century. Its steep and narrow streets are well worth exploring. Briancon also has a large indoor ice rink which groups can pre-book for.
