Why choose Lofer

Lofer is known locally as ‘Schneelock’, for its high levels of natural snowfall, and has a long and successful history of hosting British skiers and school groups. The quaint village centre features a pedestrianised zone and sits directly at the bottom of the main lift leading to excellent skiing on well-groomed pistes, which cater to all abilities. Those who’ve worked up an appetite tackling several slopes can take a breather in one of a wide choice of cosy mountain huts and welcoming restaurants, which add to the charm of the area. Unken is a pretty town close to the historic city of Salzburg and the Loferer Alm ski area. Brimming with unspoilt Alpine charm, it has a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Its indoor swimming pool in the centre of the village is a popular activity with groups on a school ski trip to Lofer.

On the slopes

Lofer has a long and successful association with school groups and the quaint village centre, with its pedestrianised zone, sits directly at the bottom of the lift. Lofer is well suited to beginners and intermediates offering well-groomed pistes to explore. It is possible to upgrade and ski the Steinplatte for a day, which offers a more challenging selection of blue and red runs. Locals refer to the area as a “Schneeloch”, due to receiving greater snowfall than the surrounding resorts. Those in your group looking for more of a challenge will find a few testing black runs to push you to your limits. In Lofer, groups will find modern lifts, north-facing slopes and some excellent snowmaking equipment ensuring your students won’t be disappointed on the slopes.
