Why choose Obertauern

Located at the top of the pass connecting the Salzburger Sportwelt to Oberlungau, Obertauern may be a purpose-built resort but it still offers an authentic Austrian experience. The resort prides itself on a long winter season stretching from November to May thanks to a centre height of 1700m, and with 100% snowmaking coverage, Obertauern is a favourite with our school groups. Accommodation is located on the north side of the resort providing easy access to both the nursery slopes and main lift access.

On the slopes

Obertauern has an interesting blend of old and new off the slopes but while it may be one of Austria’s ‘youngest’ ski resorts, the ski area provides both clockwise and anti-clockwise options even the most experienced skiers will appreciate. Beginners can develop the basics on the nursery slopes located just a snowball’s throw away from our hotels. The well-planned lift system opens up to 100km of skiable terrain allowing intermediates to grow in confidence as they take on wide open pistes. Interlinked on both sides of the valley, Obertauern offers skiers and snowboarders trails to suit all abilities. Advanced skiers will find a special challenge in the mogul fields found below the Gamsleiten chairlift. Snowboarders will not be disappointed with the highly recommended snowpark ‘The Spot’, offering a host of ramps, rails and kickers. With the ski pass also including the Grosseck-Speiereck section of Oberlungau, it’s no surprise that school ski trips to Obertauern are very popular with our groups.
